Why consistency IS key!

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

You name it - I’ve probably tried it and if I haven’t I will know somebody that has!

No matter what it is that you are incorporating on your journey to better health the one piece of advice I would give is this:

"Consistency is key!"

There is no ‘silver bullet’ to solving our health problems (dang it) BUT you could find yourself feeling a hell of a lot better if you stick with that new ‘thing’ just a little longer...

Whether it’s diet, sleep hygiene, movement, exercise, relaxation, mindfulness, meditation, supplements, holistic therapies, counselling, anger management, stress reduction, whatever it is, make it consistent.

I learnt this lesson over the years when I was overcoming IBD. I noticed that as I felt better and symptoms were improving I would be more likely to 'slack off' on my routine and would go longer between my appointments with therapists, and you know what? Yep, my health declined as I wasn't being consistent.

Thereafter, I got back in my groove and when I added a new change to my lifestyle I gave it time to settle in and take effect and didn't give up or 'write it off' so soon. Looking back I didn’t give up many new additions as everything became just a new element to my life and maybe it was that combined effort that made all the difference to my recovery.

Here are my 3 steps to Consistency:

Start small

Don’t go crazy! Pick something simple and achievable and get it into your daily or weekly routine in a stress free way.

Build up slowly

Once you are feeling the benefits of a change to your lifestyle introduce something else (if you want to) but don’t give up on the first change. Keep it going!

Get support

Doing this stuff can be hard on your own, so why struggle? Reach out to a friend, a local support group or reputable Health Coach who are trained and experienced to help you stay on track.
